IPES CDT students win Best Research Poster awards at the Barlow Memorial Lecture 2019

CDT PhD students Lucy Hale and Thomas Gerard were recognised at The Barlow Memorial Lecture this year. The event celebrates the research of the EEE Department with a poster display showcasing the current work of Masters students and PhD researchers.

The Barlow Memorial Lecture is held biennially at UCL in memory of Harold Everard Monteagle Barlow (1899-1989) who was the Head of the Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) Department and remembered for his many contributions to microwave research. The event celebrates the department's current research with a poster display by Masters students and PhD researchers. Prizes are awarded for the best research posters in different categories and for academically outstanding students.

2019 saw two IPES CDT students recognised:

Award: Environment Agency prize - best poster presentation by a female student
Winner: Lucy Hale, PhD research student
Title: Terrahertz nearfield microscopy & spectroscopy
Supervisor: Prof Cyril Renaud

Award: CISCO best poster related to the Internet of Things
Winner: Thomas Gerard, PhD research student
Title: Intelligent Transmitters for Data Centres
Supervisors: Prof Polina Bayvel and Ben Thompson
