Successful Industry Day 2014 in London

On 24th January, the new CDT welcomes representatives from many companies, both large and small, to London for our annual Industry Day.

Companies with interests in integrated photonics joined CDT academic staff and students at the Annual Industry Day on 24th January, this year hosted at Senate House in London. This year there were companies representing more sectors than ever before, including broadcasting, automotive and the oil and gas industry.

This year's key note speakers were Professor Andrew Fisher, Director of the new CDT in Delivering Quantum Technologies and David Smith, CEO of CIP Technologies (Huawei).

There were company presentations from BAE Systems, Zinwave, Tendeka, AFE, Qioptiq, Silixa, Hamamatsu and Selex ES and the Photonics Leadership Group.

There were also interesting table top displays from Qioptiq and Hamamatsu.

Presentations were given from Gemma Bale (UCL Medical Physics) about In-Vivo Measurements of Cerebral Metabolic Changes in Neonates using Broadband Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Alexander Macfaden (Cambridge Engineering) about his work with Professor Tim Wilkinson on an Optical Derivative Processor.

Companies are encouraged to submit project proposals for our MRes students to run from May-Sept 2014 and for PhDs starting this September. The deadline for proposals is 28th Feb for MRes projects and 28th March for PhD projects. Projects can be undertaken at Cambridge, UCL or within industry.
